For several years, I have tried various blog, website, and social media ideas; trying out a blog specific to share the experience and learnings of a woman with Asperger’s Syndrome (now incorporated into Autism Spectrum Disorder, ASD), a website dedicated to sharing eco-friendly alternatives to live more sustainably, a clothing company focused on products with taxonomically accurate interpretations of plants, animals, and/or fungi. But every time I started following one of these ideas, exploring a new concept, or attempting to share what I’m learning, I always ended up veering away because my focus was drawn elsewhere. And although each idea, concept, company, or learning may be different, they are (at least to me) intertwined in some way:
My interest in living sustainably is as equally related to the impacts of our consumer culture on the environment as much as it is to my personal finances, local, national, and global economic stability, as well as the just and equitable distribution of opportunities and resources for humans and wildlife to live and thrive.
I’ve dreamed of an umbrella company or website where I could house business ideas, what I’m learning, experiences I’ve had, and my exploration of different concepts. A single location where I could share what I’m learning whether it’s related to ASD and social norms, the difficulties associated with using recycled rubber in asphalt, a new food truck I’ve fallen in love with, or an idea for a wedding decor rental company for DIY-ers; and that is the why Simply Curious exists as a website and as a company. It is a place to share the outcome of following my curiosity, a single place to collect the side quests of my life journey, but to hopefully, also inspire others to reconnect with curiosity and wonder within their own life journey.
